High-power UVB LED Modules

UV-B based LEDs are a relatively new technology. Examples of wavelengths currently commercially available include 290nm, 305nm, 285nm, 325nm, 335nm 340nm, and 355nm However, UV-B LED technology is rapidly developing, and over time new wavelengths will be developed, costs will reduce and efficiencies will increase as has already happened within the red, infrared, blue, and UV-B wavelength LED ranges.

UVB LEDs vs. Traditional Technologies

Many applications use Mercury based UV lamps for UVB LIGHTING applications but this technology has a number of disadvantages versus LED technology. There is increased regulation around mercury usage and its environmental impact resulting in increased disposal costs and proposed bans in some countries. These systems also require the use of chlorine to enable disinfection and are typically much larger than LED-based systems.

With an increase in the type of ultraviolet (UV) light applications, the specific requirements for various industries are growing and there is a greater emphasis on higher light output, better thermal management, greater flexibility, and more adaptability. Description

The Heyis high-power 5050 series UV-B LED is designed for air and water sterilization, fluorescent spectroscopy and chemical and biological analysis. The 5050 package emits 280-355nm UV-B photons that penetrate cells and damage the nucleic acid, subsequently leaving them microbiologically inactive or dead. The heyis package has been reflowed onto a 20mm metal core circuit in either a 1-Up or 4-Up LED configuration.

LED Star MCPCB

We offer this UV-B LED reflowed on your choice of two different metal core printed circuit boards (MCPCB) versions: a single (1-Up: 1 LED) and triple (4-Up: 4 LEDs). The 1- Up is a single UV-B LED reflow soldered to a 20mm hexagonal (LED Star) MCPCB. The MCPCB has four large solder pads for easy solder connections. The 4-Up is three (4) UV-B LEDs reflow soldered in-series to a 20mm hexagonal MCPCB. The 4-Up MCPCB has two solder pads for connections and a center hole for wires or securing the LED star to a heat sink.
